Although Virtual Barbershop is three years old, I only came across it last weekend. And it’s one of the most interesting things I’ve seen – or in this case, heard – in a long time.

The technology required to create this kind of immersive 3D surround sound (called binaural recording) doesn’t appear to be used much, so I’m guessing it’s either prohibitively difficult or expensive. Either way it opens up so many creative opportunities for experiential events, and this new iPhone game sounds amazing:

I downloaded the new Sky Mobile TV News and Sports app last night and it’s AMAZING. Fact.

You get Sky Sports 1, 2, 3, Xtra, Sports News, Sky News and ESPN all streaming live on your mobile in stunning quality. I watched a bit of the Murray Vs Blake tennis last night and was surprised at quite how good it was.

The only downsides are that you have to be in a Wi-Fi area, which thanks to O2′s coverage is limited to about 49.2 square feet just outside of Swindon, and although the app is free it costs £6 a month to subscribe.

But happy day Callooh Callay, it’s free for 3 months for another 149,999 lucky O2 subscribers, so hurry down to the iTunes Store today.

The new iPhone finally launched yesterday, and after months of hideous envy, I’m finally going to get one. Not sure if it’s worth signing up for a 2-year contract or just paying more money and sticking with an 18-monther. The speed at which technology becomes redundant these days makes me wary of signing up to 2 years. Case in point: my current Sony Ericsson hasn’t really been the same since I cracked the screen a year ago, and looks positively neanderthal next to the iPhone. Although I did get a free Wii when I bought it, so every cloud…

But with a better camera, video recording, and an in-built compass for any person who thinks that orienteering is a good way to spend a weekend, the new iPhone sounds awesome.

On a slight tangent, there was a catchily-titled pulsating Apple Store hyperwall at WWDC which looked pretty cool.
