Japanese barcodes

I love it when someone takes something as dull and as everyday as a barcode and makes it fun. And now that I’ve seen these efforts by various Japanese designers, I’m left wondering why more people haven’t done it before(?).

But then again, maybe they’ve been doing it for years and I’ve just been too zoned out to notice when I’m scanning in my pasta sauces at the Tesco Self Service machine.
