Day of the triffids

This is a type of pitcher plant that has just been discovered in the Philippines and has been named Nepenthes attenboroughii after Sir David Attenborough (he must be so proud). And whilst it’s not strictly speaking a man-devouring piece of lettuce, this thingt is pretty damn freaky in its own right.

For starters, it’s carnivorous. And not in a venus fly-trap kind of way. It eats large rodents by luring them into its big pouch and then trapping them so they can’t get out.

Christ.
